Una camminata in una valla storica della Regione Lazio, teatro di film e serie televisive che hanno scritto pagine importanti del cinema italiano. Nella Tuscia, tra i comuni di Calcata e Mazzano Romano, a metà strada tra Roma e Viterbo, si estende la valle del parco regionale del fiume Treja.
In quest’area protetta, caratterizzata da piante e animali unici nel loro genere, l’affluente del Tevere si è aperto un varco tra le rocce vulcaniche, creando forre, canyon incontaminati e bellissime cascate, come quella di Monte Gelato. Un connubio tra archeologia e natura selvaggia che rende il luogo una delle mete predilette per gli appassionati di trekking.
Camminando per i sentieri della collina laziale si arriva così alle pendici del Monte Gelato, teatro di film come ‘Lo chiamavano Trinità’ e ‘Superfantozzi’. Il percorso, lungo circa 14 km, prevede diversi livelli di difficoltà. I meno esperti possono fermarsi all’altezza delle cascate di Monte Gelato.
Un’occasione per immergersi a 360° nella natura, con la possibilità di entrare a diretto contatto con la fauna del posto. I boschi intorno al percorso sono abitati da cinghiali, poiane, istrici, volpi e tassi. Il tutto senza dimenticare la storia. I luoghi attorno il monte sono infatti ricchi di aree archeologiche interessanti.
Visitare i borghi circostanti, nel percorso da Calcata alle cascate, permette di ammirare edifici medievali, i resti di una villa romana del I secolo a.C. e tombe etrusche. L’attrazione più caratteristica è la Mola (o mulino) di Monte Gelato, realizzata nel 1830.
