Nomentano has always been rich in beautiful buildings. Some can still be admired today. Others, however, survive only in the black and white pictures taken by the neighbourhood’s historic residents and jealously guarded in their drawers. Such is the case of the Art Nouveau villa that once stood in Viale XXI Aprile and was demolished in 1958. Today the Santa Costanza hotel stands in its place. The shot belongs to Salvatore Rizzacasa and was published in the volume “Come Eravamo Nomentano by Typimedia Editore. A great story told through images of the history of our neighbourhood.
The great richness of the styles of the small villas that line the streets is due to the fact that in 1942 there was still no single model to follow for the construction of houses: a mixture of styles and research dominated. Architects were thus able to experiment, producing unique works. Some of which have only come down to us thanks to period photographs.
In the series ‘Come Eravamo’ (How We Were), Typimedia Editore has also published volumes dedicated to the districts: Trieste-Salario, Montesacro, Monteverde, San Lorenzo, Prati and Trastevere.
