La Veranda is located inside Palazzo della Rovere, built in the 15th century, a short walk from Vatican City. The location, with its frescoes and vaulted ceiling, is so beautiful and special that it was chosen by Paolo Sorrentino to shoot some scenes in ‘La Grande Bellezza’. Especially for the gallant scene in which Jep Gambardella (Toni Servillo) and Ramona (Sabrina Ferilli) dine together.
In addition to this enchanting zone, you can choose to eat in the candlelit garden. La Veranda offers Roman and Mediterranean cuisine, all the recipes are prepared by chef Claudio Favale. The main room, which used to be a refectory, has only thirteen tables arranged in a double row.Tables are framed by fully frescoed cross-vaulted bays, lunettes, paintings and reliefs on the walls. Large arched windows overlook the inner patio. Inside, there is also a very elegant grand piano, illuminated by soft lighting. The long marble staircase is also impressive.
On the outside we find the large roof garden, ideal for dinners in fine weather, but also used for Sunday brunch. Brunch includes three different menus and it is served from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. The wine list is very accurate, and it is possible to extend your permanence by staying at the Hotel Columbus, also located inside the Palazzo della Rovere. La Veranda is open from Tuesday to Sunday for both lunch and dinner, with the addition of Sunday brunch, at Borgo Santo Spirito 73.
